Service Learning Project
-Down Syndrome Indiana Buddy Walk-
White River State Park
The service learning project is an opportunity to help out the community as well as learning valuable skills along the way. It combines both community service and academic learning in the real world. The service learning project allows students to apply what they've learned in real-life situations. It gives students the opportunity to make a positive impact while learning essential skills to use in their everyday lives!

I participated in helping set up for the Down Syndrome Indiana Buddy Walk at White River State Park. I learned an immense amount of overall lessons and valuable skills to take into my daily life. After engaging in the service project I learned about how significant resilience is to any community project. Service learning projects come with many challenges and unexpected circumstances that you have to be ready for and persevere through. I learned how to adapt to these said challenges and how to problem solve. Volunteering for the set up of the Down Syndrome Indiana Buddy Walk provided me with a lot of empathy. I was able to understand the different perspectives and challenges individuals have to persevere through. I loved seeing how excited the participants were for the race as they were getting ready. It was a very wide-opening experience and I am so thankful for the opportunity!
